BRIDPORT RESERVES 1

SWANAGE T&H 0

ROBIN Townsend was happy with this victory but is still after much more from his inconsistent Bees.

Bridport Reserves were poor in the opening half of this Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League clash but they improved after the break and eventually got the winner through Chris Herbst.

Boss Townsend said: “It was not the prettiest of games and it was 0-0 at half-time.

“We were poor in the first half. In fact, it was the poorest we have been and to be honest it was a bit of a disappointment.

“We did not have a single shot on goal or a single corner and I cannot remember another match when that has happened.

“However, we sorted it out at the break and in the second half we were much better.

“Swanage turned up late due to traffic and whether that played a part in our first-half display I do not know, but it is still not an excuse.

“In fact, they will probably feel they should have been ahead at half-time but the way my lads responded after that was superb, and all we can do is try and build on that now and move on to the next game.”

Tristan Gale came off the bench and provided the necessary spark for the Bees.

His pace gave the hosts more of an attacking threat and it was from one such run that Herbst grabbed the winner.

Townsend added: “Tristan gave us something different when he came on and his work in the lead up to the goal was excellent.

“He took the ball around the keeper before showing great composure to pick out Chris, who did the rest by firing a shot into the net past a couple of defenders on the goal-line.

“We also had a couple of other half chances after that and I thought we defended pretty well too.

“We just need to find some consistency. It is something we have been trying to achieve for a while and hopefully over the next couple of weeks we can get that.”

The Bees, who travel to Holt United on Saturday, now sit fifth, two points adrift of early pacesetters Mere Town.

Bees: B Fleet, Stordy, King, A Clarke, H Fleet (Gall 75), Lock, Cummings (Gale 60), Scovell (Day 70), Herbst, B Clarke, Steele.
