HOLT UNITED 0 BRIDPORT RESERVES 4

LIFE is looking a little rosier at St Mary’s Field, according to Robin Townsend.

The Bridport reserve-team boss appears to have a lot more options available to him this season and is hoping the competition for places will lead to more consistency from his side in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League.

Speaking after the Bees’ 4-0 win at Gaunts Common, Townsend said: “Holt were not the best and have clearly been struggling of late but it is still a tough place to go and I thought we handled it very well.

“We went there with the right attitude and to keep another clean sheet and get the win was pleasing.

“To be honest we could have probably hit 10 if we had taken more of our chances, particularly in the second half, but like I said, overall I was happy with the performance.

“Things are certainly looking rosier this season compared to last year but the challenge is to keep those consistency levels up.

“Everyone is beating everyone at the moment and it looks like it is going to be a tight league so it is very important we keep things going.”

Tristan Gale opened the scoring on 20 minutes after combining with Ben Clarke, who then went on to grab the second just before the break with a fine finish from the edge of the box.

Harry Fleet then hammered home number three before Gale completed the scoring after racing through one-on-one.

Bridport also thought they had a penalty in the second half only to see the decision overruled.

Townsend added: “The referee blew up for a foul in the box on Tristan Gale but his assistant flagged and got the decision changed.

“He reckoned Tristan had pulled their defender back to get in front of him. It was a difficult one but overall I thought the officials were pretty good on the day and have no complaints.”

Bridport have picked up 12 points from their first six outings and are now fourth, four points off the summit with a game in hand. Their next assignment is a home clash against Cranborne on Saturday (3pm).

Bees: B Fleet, Stordy, Day, King, Fry, G Bulman (Cummings 70), H Fleet (Gall 60), Steele, Herbst, B Clarke (Scovell 65), Gale.
