WEYMOUTH Basketball Club marked the end of yet another successful season with their annual presentation at Redlands Community Sports Hub.

With the club still going strong, it was a successful evening highlighted by the support of family and friends across the club.

Weymouth’s dedicated and hard-working committee and coaches spent the year giving their time freely to ensure that basketball provision continues to grow in Weymouth.

Presentations were made to individual players from each team in the club – these included: most valuable player, most improved, best defensive and hustler.

In the junior section it was an extra boost as both the under-12s and the under-14s scooped league titles and saw under-16 standout Jake Kinder make several appearances for the Bandits’ first team.

In the men’s set-up, the Bandits finished in their highest place in Solent Division One in more than 10 years despite having to change venues to Budmouth Sports Centre, giving a needed boost with facilities and updated court markings.

The night was slightly darkened with news that first-team best defensive player Ian Manley was not returning next season alongside most valuable player Dzitars Kalkis, who had planned to step away from the game a month earlier.

The night overall highlighted that there were plenty of reasons to keep spirits high as the club will be offering more basketball to its members at no extra cost, and that there was a strong push from the junior and third-team sections.

Chairman Tim Kingman said: “This was another fantastic turnout from our members and a superb year of basketball all-round.

“It’s incredible that there are so many members of our local community that are willing to get involved and, with the tal- ent we have on the court, there can only be better things to come.

“It’s also very important to note that this was a joint partnership with others in the Weymouth and Portland community and we would like to thank the support of our sponsors Weymouth Tand-oori, GH Podiatry and Weymouth College.”
