WEYMOUTH Angling Society hosted their annual Crab Day with a record number of 64 children signing on to take part.

They used a variety of crab lines and baits to tempt their catch and the lucky winners were as follows: Most Crab – Jack Homer; Biggest Crab – Lewis Wilkinson and Smallest Crab – Katie Richards.

The most unusual catch of the day went to Reuben and Saffron Billings for their huge oyster.

Running alongside the crab competition was a fundraising raffle and quiz to support the Joseph Weld Hospice and Dorset County Hospital’s Cancer Care.

A big thank you to all those businesses and individuals who donated prizes as a total of £600 was raised.

Junior round-up WEYMOUTH Angling Centre held their junior competition on the Stone Pier.

It was a lovely day, if still a bit breezy, but sadly the event wasn’t well attended.

However, a lot of fish were caught.

Under-12s’ winner was Jack Homer with 34 fish points and over-12s’ winner was Sam Short with 59. Rea Casey was top lady with 22 and the best fish was a 10oz ballen wrasse landed by Short.

The latest Weymouth AS Junior League match was held on a sunny and warm evening with 25 youngsters taking part.

Plenty of fish were caught during the course of the match, the best a pollack of 9oz by Reece Baker. The under-12s’ winner was Aaliyah Frapple with 32.5 fish points and the runner-up was her sister, Nina with 40.

Any junior anglers out there who would like to take part in the Junior League can contact Weymouth Angling Society on 785032.
