A PLACE in the last four of the Dorset & Wilts Seconds XV Shield is up for grabs tomorrow when Weymouth host local rivals Dorchester at Monmouth Avenue (2.30pm).

Dorchester had the upper hand on Weymouth when the two met in Dorset & Wilts Two South earlier in the season and the county town side are in confident mood ahead of the quarter-final clash.

Rich Bament’s team won 19-5 at Weymouth in September and have enjoyed a promising start to the campaign with five wins from seven in the league.

However, Weymouth, apart from a 70-0 thrashing by a rampant Dorset Dockers side last weekend, have been in good shape themselves this term with four victories out of seven.

“Following Weymouth first XV’s withdrawal from league competition it will be interesting to see what sort of side they put out tomorrow,” said Dorchester coach Bament. “This is a second-team competition so we hope it is a genuine second-team contest.

“We back ourselves as we have had a really promising start to the season and are in fine spirits.”

The visitors have a strong squad to choose from and the recent return of Lee Harvey has been a big boost.

Team manager Tom Gower added: “We’re really pleased with the overall selection because the balance between the forwards and backs is as good as we’ve selected for any match this year.

“It means we can mix up our game should we need to but more importantly, it means that we can go out to play with ambition.”

On Harvey’s return, skipper Tom Evans added: “Lee is a good, experienced player who brings another strong element to the team and I’m so pleased he’s available for us again.”

Weymouth Thirds are also on the hunt for silverware this season and they entertain Bournemouth Thirds in the quarter-finals of the Dorset & Wilts Third XV Cup (2.30pm).

In the Dorset & Wilts Cup, a win for Swanage & Wareham at home to Trowbridge tomorrow (2.30pm) would see them through to the final at Wareham on December 21.
