MATT Groves has admitted the Terras should be doing better but insists there is no need to panic with three-quarters of the season still left.

Weymouth hold games in hand on nearly all the sides above them in the Calor Southern Premier Divis-ion and Groves is hoping a win at Corby Town tomorrow (3pm) can kick-start a quick climb up the table.

The Terras’ assistant-manager takes heart in the example set by Gosport Borough last season when the Hampshire club overcame a disastrous start to gain promotion via the play-offs.

And with less cup football to fill their fixture schedule, Groves reckons the Terras have the chance to take the league by the scruff of the neck.

“We have only played a quarter of our league games so it’s still very early in the season,” he said. “And if we can get three or four wins in a row our position will change dramatically.

“There are a couple of home matches coming up and if we can pick up seven or nine points from the next three you will see us in a completely different position.

“There is no need for anyone at the club to panic. It’s not like we have been cut adrift at the bottom, there is still plenty of time left.

“This time last year Gosport were in the bottom three and ended up getting promotion so you can’t really judge things yet.”

He added: “We should have more points on the board than we do at the moment but a nice little unbeaten run could see us challenging for the top five.

“We’ve got a steady run of league fixtures coming up and hopefully we’ll be able to get a settled side out and see where we are going.

“Corby are going to be no different from any other team in this league, but if we are strong and work hard we have got every chance of getting a result.”

Danny Clay has trained this week and is set to return to the squad after injury, but Dave Allen is expected to miss out again due to illness.
