Vivienne Trophy

DORCHESTER 100 YEOVIL 45

DORCHESTER’S new generation of women bowlers displayed their skills, thanks to the support of a sprinkling of more experienced colleagues.

They enabled the county town team to secure their place in the next round of this competition, which is designed for players not taking part in the prestigious Yetton Trophy.

In a game which the outcome was difficult to predict, it was the hosts who proved to have more strength in depth than their Somerset counterparts who were unable to match the all-round play of the county town ladies.

The two Dorchester away rinks set out to contain the home Yeovil rinks and both achieved good results.

Jan Hart, Jenny Langdon, Hazel Newboult and skip Fran Dyer built up a very healthy 21-7 lead before the Yeovil rink, skipped by Jane Bishop, staged a fight back and reduced the Dorchester final score to 21-16.

The companion county town rink of Jan Meyers, Linda Hill, Ann Kay and Margaret Cullip gave Dorchester another good rink win – this time by a slightly bigger margin against Margaret Rogers – 22-11.

With job done away, the home players were able to take full advantage of the position and Val Dewer, Di Lunn, Jan Cherry and Sandra Hubbard did so with an all-round clinical display, as they romped to a 31-7 victory against Marion Warnett, which put the match way out of reach of the visitors.

It was left to Carol Baker, Val Ferguson, Kay Johns and Jill Bonnett to secure a whitewash when posting a healthy 21-11 triumph against the Yeovil rink led by June Emery.
