JABS, hooks and uppercuts are set to be traded at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester on Friday.

Unlicensed boxing comes to the county town with 10 bouts taking place in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Promoter and trainer Sam Westall is putting on the action-packed show, dubbed ‘Judgement Day’, which starts at 7pm.

A handful of Westall’s Dorchester protégés take to the ring along with fighters from Bournemouth, Swanage and Wareham on a bill dominated by Dorset boxers.

“There has been a lot of interest in the show and it’s a chance for anyone at a loose end between Christmas and New Year to enjoy a good night out,” said Westall.

“There will be a good mix of fighters on the night with bouts at lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight, and I might be fighting for a title as well.

“I’ve been involved with other promotions before but I wanted to put this one on for the Dorchester lads who have gone through some tough times.”

He added: “Some people still think unlicensed boxing is about bare-knuckle fights and stuff like that, but all the rules are the same as licensed boxing.

“There is a qualified referee, medical assistance at ringside and enough people around to know when a boxer has had enough.”

Tickets are available priced at £20 (sitting), £15 (standing) or £400 for a VIP table of 10 either before the event or on the door.

Anyone wishing to buy tickets or requiring further information can contact the event’s promoter on 07414994605.
