MAGPIES: Dorchester going for a big finish to year

Dorset Echo: BANNED: Nick Crittenden BANNED: Nick Crittenden

DORCHESTER Town can end a turbulent 2013 on a high today when they head to the seaside to take on Weston-super-Mare (3pm).

A positive result for the Magpies at the Woodspring Stadium could see them move off the foot of the Skrill South table going into the new year.

Both Dorchester and the Seagulls enter today’s clash on the back of Boxing Day defeats against Eastleigh and Bath City respectively.

But Magpies’ boss Phil Simkin is optimistic about the rest of the campaign given how the club has had to adapt to changes in personnel at the Avenue in the first half of the season.

“What’s happened is unbelievable,” he said. “We’ve had to rebuild a side during the season, which in this league is really hard.

“But it has given chances to lads that wouldn’t otherwise have got one and they’ve taken it with both hands.

“I’m delighted with what has happened and I’ve been really pleased with what we’ve done recently.

“Unfortunately, we let in so many goals at the start of the season that goal difference is keeping us down there.”

He continued: “Weston is going to be difficult, it always is.

“But I said before these three games that if we could get three points I would settle for that.”

Skipper Mark Jermyn returns after suspension but Nick Crittenden serves a one-match ban and misses out.

Danny Way is back in the squad having sat out the Eastleigh loss with a tight hamstring.
