THE Dorchester & District Evening League is on the lookout for new teams to enter the 2014 campaign.

The league is made up of three divisions and caters for all levels of cricketers. It also offers the opportunity to play on some of the most picturesque grounds in the area.

Cattistock Seconds have become the latest team to submit an application and Derek Pride is looking forward to having them on board.

The league treasurer told Echosport: “Cattistock Seconds will mainly be made up of youngsters, with a couple of experienced players guiding them, and we look forward to seeing how they go.

“Any other teams interested in joining Division Three need to apply by tomorrow.

“They can do that by contacting fixture secretary Paula King on 756420 or secretary Rachel Bailey on 0779630242.

“The league’s Annual General meeting will be held on January 23 at Dorchester Town Football Club.

“All existing members must be represented at the AGM.”

St George’s will once again be the team to beat in 2014 after they claimed a league cup and double in the summer.

The Saints claimed their seventh Division One title in eight years and also picked up the Doug Read Knockout Cup. Bere Regis took top honours in Division Two while Division Three champions Plush were the only team to finish the season with a 100 per cent record.

Charlton Down will also be out next year to build on their recent successes. Their first team finished runners-up in the second tier and also reached their first Knockout Cup final.

The league attracts some of the best part-time players in the county from Pete Moxom, who finished the highest run scorer in the summer, to upcoming youngsters like Ollie Titterington and Sam Roles.
