WEYMOUTH Rowing Club is seeking kit sponsorship as they prepare for the 25th annual World Gig Rowing Championships, which are being held in the Isles of Scilly.

More than 60 members will be heading to the islands on the first Bank Holiday weekend in May to take part in the event, which will include over 70 clubs and 136 gigs, with rowers coming from as far afield as Holland and America.

More than 5,000 rowers will be living in a mini Olympic village on the island of St Mary’s.

Lynn Reynolds, spokeswoman and ladies’ captain, said: “Weymouth’s competitive section is getting stronger every year with rowers who self-fund to attend various regattas throughout the summer.

“Our trophy cabinet was the best yet in 2013 and as we are representing the community of Weymouth and its surrounding areas at such a great event, I am keen to make sure our rowers feel good with what they are wearing.

“This really helps to deliver positive results, so I want to put out a request for any local businesses in the Weymouth area who would like to be involved and help us with sponsorship towards our kit, which will be just vests and T-shirts, the rowers will provide the rest.

“While the current kit design is being revised, this is also a good time to add any logos from sponsors that may come forward to help us.

“During the summer months, club members travel hundreds of miles every weekend to regattas held by other clubs in the east and south west of the UK continually promoting this wonderful sport.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring the club can contact Lynn via email at lynn.reynolds4@btinternet.com or by calling 07795852346.

Reynolds is keen to have funding in place by mid-February so an order can be placed.

Weymouth Rowing Club is always looking to recruit new rowers of all ages and abilities, including juniors.
