PORTLAND AC

SIX members of Portland AC braved the wet and windy conditions on Sunday to fish the second match of their shore fishing season.

Steve Goodwin took the honours this time with 13 points, his two flounders weighing 2lb 4oz 12drms giving him firsts in best specimen, species, number of fish and top weight.

Goodwin’s winning specimen was a flounder, 67.36 per cent of specimen weight.

Derry Meyers and Dave McCune both scored seven points, the former with seconds in best specimen and species, and third on number of fish and weight.

McCune gained his points for seconds in weight and number of fish, and third in specimen and species. All other anglers scored one point each.

ATLANTA BOAT CLUB

MEMBERS of Atlanta BC had a fine day of whiting fishing, with specimens up to 3lb, as well as conger and skate.

Mick Hoyle had a respectable 42lb conger and an undulate ray of 15lb 8oz, while John Johnson had a fine 3lb whiting.

LYME REGIS

SEVENTEEN members of Lyme Regis SAC signed up to fish their second shore match at Seaton, with the target to catch the heaviest single fish.

Cold, calm conditions favoured the anglers on this occasion, much better than the wind and rain they had for the previous match.

Most anglers chose to fish the main beach apart from Ben Male and a couple of others who decided to fish the rougher ground east of the river.

This paid off for Male who caught bull huss and dogfish.

Five species were brought to the scales in total but it was Male’s 1,342g bull huss which won this match.

The top five places were as follows: 1 Ben Male – 5pts, 2 Gavin Tyte – 4pts, 3 Tony Bessford – 3pts, 4 Steve Westwood, Lee Chard and Toby Guest – 2pts.
