PHIL Simkin is desperate for the weather gods to show some mercy this weekend as Dorchester Town’s “season from hell goes on”.
The Magpies’ boss takes his team to Farnborough tomorrow (3pm) in the hope of seeing them claim a much-needed three points.
But with this month’s heavy rain taking its toll on football fixtures across the county in recent weeks, Simkin wouldn’t be surprised if the Skrill South clash didn’t take place.
Dorchester’s match at Chelmsford last Saturday was called off after the rearranged midweek game against Hayes & Yeading had to be abandoned.
And with several loan players in his squad, Simkin is concerned about the lack of game time they are getting while at the Avenue.
“We’ve got these loans running out without players playing games,” he said.
“And there are going to be so many games in a short space of time that with the squad the size of ours it’s going to be difficult.
“The season from hell goes on. Nathan Walker hasn’t kicked a ball yet.
“What can we do? We can’t do anything about the weather. We just have to deal with it like we’ve dealt with everything else this season.
“Players need to play games, they can only train so much.
“You do lose sharpness when you don’t play and that’s something we certainly can’t afford to do.”
Clive Makoni and Steve Walker are still out through suspension, while Harry Bell and Bournemouth loanee Jake McCarthy remain sidelined with ankle injuries.
Left-back Fraser Colmer is available for tomorrow’s trip to Hampshire but it is unclear how many more games he will be able to play after that.
Simkin added: “Fraser has been told by Southampton that he won’t be offered a contract next season so he is training with Bournemouth at the moment.
“He has still got a contract with Southampton until the end of the season but they’ve given him a heads up to give him a chance to find something else."
Charlie Losasso’s loan from the Cherries is coming to an end but Simkin wants to keep him for longer if he can.
Farnborough are 17th in the league and have lost their last two at the Rushmoor Community Stadium in the Skrill South.
