TERRAS: Yetton played through the pain barrier

Dorset Echo: ANKLE KNOCK: Stewart Yetton ANKLE KNOCK: Stewart Yetton

TERRAS’ forward Stewart Yetton revealed that he played through the pain barrier for 80 minutes during Saturday’s home draw with Hitchin Town.

The striker suffered a severe sprain to his left ankle in the opening exchanges at the Bob Lucas Stadium, but was determined to play on for the full 90 minutes.

Weymouth skipper Yetton, who has hit eight goals in his last eight league encounters, told Echosport: “When I took the boot off to get it strapped, because of the swelling, I struggled to get it back on. After half-time, the pain really started to set in and I think the adrenaline was wearing off, so it was really starting to cause some discomfort.

“I was well aware that it was quite bad and it had ballooned up a lot at the time. Our physio said that I had to come off but I said as long as I could play on it, there was no way that was going to happen.

“I was thinking about going to hospital after the game but I know my own body and I can walk normally on it. I’m just hoping it’s a minor tweak of the ligaments and that’s why it’s bruised up so much.”

Yetton has yet to miss a minute for the Terras in the league this season and is hoping to recover in time for this weekend’s trip to Hungerford Town.

He added: “I’m determined to play and it’s not causing me to limp which is a promising sign. I’m just hopeful in the next few days it will settle down and it shouldn’t be too bad.

This actually annoys me, because this is not the first time Stewart Yetton has done this, and recently as well. Why is he staying on the pitch when he is injured and the game has no relevance whatsoever? Yes I can read he is doing it for the cause, but the point is, there was no cause.

Playing with injuries such as badly sprained ankles is nothing more than STUPID. This player is going to seriously injure himself and probably curtail his career early if he is not more careful. Check his twitter account to see how bad his injury was just 2/3 weeks ago. Horrific.

This is poor management as well, he should be sidelined/subbed if he has been told by the physio to come off.

He has had a brilliant season, but could have easily been rested for the final 2 or 3 weeks. Crazy. And his beard looks completely daft by the way, guy needs to grow up a bit.
