BRIDPORT 125 (17pts) beat PIMPERNE 93 (5pts) by 32 runs

After the Brewery Ground outfit won the toss and elected to bat, they lost captain Mark Smith early on, bringing Toohill to the crease with the score at 6-1.

He told Echosport: “We lost Mark in the third over and then we lost another soon after so things didn’t look good for us as a batting side.

“We still need to improve in the batting, some of the shots weren’t very good at all.”

But Toohill dug in well and was the second top scorer in the innings with 32 including three fours, as the hosts posted a modest total of just 125.

It could have been much worse for Bridport but for some lower- order hitting from number 11 Mark Cope, who belligerently went about his business to dispatch the Pim-perne attack for 42 before he was eventually dismissed.

Toohill, pictured, added: “He has done it in the past before with a couple of scores in the 20s, everything just worked for him and it was vital that we got past the hundred mark.

“If we get anything over one hundred we have something to bowl at, it gives the bowlers a chance to defend a total.”

And they did just that thanks to Duane Gay, who came into the attack at first change and bowled with precise accuracy to claim 5-38 from 10 overs as Pimperne collapsed to 93 all out.

On Gay’s performance with the ball, Toohill added: “He bowled really well and he didn’t go for many with a short leg-side boundary, so to get those figures is a great effort.”

Commenting on their league campaign to date, he added: “It’s annoying that we haven’t been able to play so we are already behind in the league, but I suppose we are still unbeaten in 2014, which is the main thing.”
