WHILE England fans hold their breath and hope that the Three Lions can overcome Uruguay this evening (8pm), football supporters in Dorchester are already celebrating.
Following a 5-1 thrashing of Poole Town, Dorchester Town Ladies have once again been confirmed as Dorset Women’s League champions.
The Magpies topped the league without losing any of their 18 games this season, and with a staggering goal difference of +94.
“As any football player or fan will tell you, victory is sweet,” said team captain Becky Narramore. “We’ve all got our fingers crossed that the England boys can also manage to pick themselves up and go on to win in Brazil.
“It would be nice to see those England flags flying from cars for more than two weeks at least.”
The ladies remain unbeaten since 2011, and this season they received a fresh injection of cash from Poundbury-based sponsors RiskSTOP.
The company helped them buy brand new kit and equipment.
Now the ladies are taking a well-earned rest and putting their feet up to watch the World Cup, before pre-season training starts all over again.
The team are looking to recruit new players for the 2014/15 season.
