WEYMOUTH v PARLEY
RETURNING captain Kieron Womble welcomes back a whole host of names to the Seasiders’ first XI for their clash against league leaders Parley tomorrow (1pm).
As well as Womble reclaiming the captaincy reigns from stand-in skipper Matt Lawes, Will McKay, Dan Hutchens, Dean Janaway, Paul Payne and Neil Walton all come back into the side to feature in a line-up that the captain believes will add to their run-scoring credentials.
“There is a lot of batting in there, the weather looks as if it will be good as well so I imagine it will be a good track,” he told Echosport.
“It’s going to be a good game, we have a good team and they have been strong and consistent for a number of years as well.”
Parley eased to a six-wicket victory on the opening day of the season at Dean Park when the sides last met, and currently hold a 15-point lead at the summit of the Premier One standings.
But Womble believes his side have come a long way since that day, and will be looking to rock the current title holders in a bid to reclaim a place in the division’s top four.
He added: “It is very tight around there and a few teams will be hoping that we can pick up some points off of Parley.
“We can go out and get the win but it is about what happens on the day and they are a very consistent side.”
Womble also heaped praise on all-rounder Simon Browne, who has been impressive with both bat and ball in recent weeks.
He said: “Browner is a football man and we only usually get him for half the season.
“It is great to have him for the full season to keep him in such good form.”
