DORSET have called up Lymington’s Dom Hand for their second Unicorns Counties Championship contest of the season against in-form Wiltshire, starting tomorrow at Corsham (11am).

The former Bournemouth batsman has made an impressive start opening the batting in the Southern League for his new club, with an unbeaten 72 against Burridge, a highlight that caught the eye of county captain Chris Park.

On the selection of his new man, Park told Echosport: “We are delighted to have him in, he has had a good start for Lymington and it will be a good chance for him to test himself against a strong Wiltshire side and see what Minor Counties cricket is all about.

“He has been in the development XI, came to winter nets and looked good against our own minor counties bowlers and it will be good to get him involved.”

Wiltshire have enjoyed a fruitful campaign in one-day action as they defeated Norfolk to make the Knockout Trophy semi-finals last weekend, thanks to a strong performance from former Gloucestershire all-rounder Ed Young.

With Dorset being rolled over with ease against Devon last time out, the skipper knows his charges face a stern task.

“We will need to raise our game massively to compete with them,” Park added.

“We have lost a string of championship games in a row now and it’s not good enough, we may need to take a step back from playing attacking cricket and start trying to be a little bit more boring to take time out of the game and use our experience.

“Instead of going gung-ho where we have come off second best, it might be best to take a step back and stay in the game as long as we can to fight hard.”
