NEW IMAGE 24 ROYAL EXCHANGE 33

WITH only six players, New Image put up a valiant effort against the strong force of the Royal Exchange.

Exchange used full advantage of their spare attacking player, swinging the ball around the circle to gain the best shooting angle.

However, New Image defenders Christine Jones and Fiona Willcox worked hard for rebounds and their side successfully managed to stay within one goal of the Exchange.

The second quarter saw some untimely errors from both teams but Exchange regained their confidence and with superb shooting from Catherine Simmons, they extended their lead to six.

New Image regained their earlier strength and began the third quarter in a much better position.

Goal-shooter Sam Shewbridge displayed some impressive movement and was successfully finding the net.

Image left out their wing-attack position for the final quarter in an attempt to stem the flow of goals from Exchange, but Exchange had been increasing the lead since the first quarter and finished the game with a comfortable advantage.

WJNC 15 JD WETHERSPOON 46

THE Wetherspoon pairing of Sharon Chick and Lynsey Gard-ner at goal-shooter and goal-attack were unstoppable as their side gained a fine victory.

Holly Toman replaced Dani Beals at wing-attack, and although WJNC displayed some excellent, fast-paced mid-court play, they were struggling to penetrate their opponents’ defence and Wetherspoon established a 29-6 lead by the end of the first half.

WJNC made some beneficial changes to their line-up, mak- ing the third quarter much more even and only conceded seven goals.

Wetherspoon were still dominating play but were struggling to find the net.

WJNC showed moments of brilliance moving the ball through the court effortlessly, however, the experience of Wetherspoon proved too much.

BENNETTS 27 BAY FENCING AND LANDSCAPING 33

DEPLETED Bennetts put up a brave fight before being edged out by Bay Fencing.

A very even start to the match saw an almost goal for goal first quarter with Bay goal-attack Charlotte Reid scoring multiple goals from the edge of the circle.

The second quarter remained even, however, Bennetts began struggling midway through the quarter, not helped by having a missing player and Bay gained a lead of seven goals.

Bay’s increased lead re-invigorated Bennetts who returned to court as if it was the first quarter, determined to close the deficit.

Bennetts’ centre Sarah Garman worked hard to intercept every pass and provide a passing option every time her team had the ball.

Both sides kept fighting until the end, however, Bay managed to maintain a lead of six by the final whistle.
