SIMON Mitchem has paid tribute to Dan Belt after succeeding him as captain of Dorchester.
Belt, who will remain an integral part of the team, decided to step down from the role after three seasons at the helm.
Mitchem, pictured, was officially installed as the new first XI skipper during the county town club’s AGM, with James Dunham made his vice-captain.
“I’m born and bred in Dorchester and proud to be made captain,” said Mitchem.
“I’m really looking forward to the new season and being included in the new Dorset Premier League can only be a good thing for Dorchester.
“Playing the best sides means we can improve as a team, and everybody wants to get better.”
He added: “Dan did a great job for the club as captain and put in a lot of hard work.
“He is going to be a tough act to follow because he is such a good cricketer and knowledgeable player.”
Meanwhile, Mark Derrien and Simon Joslin were elected as chairman and secretary respectively at the annual general meeting.
Stuart Beasley will continue to lead the Dorchester second XI and Josh Foot is the new captain of the evening league side, while Bill Sibley returns as club president, replacing Gerry Stickley after a six-year stint.
Tony Foot is to assist son Josh, Sean Fitzgerald retains the role of club coach, and Colin Edney, Tim Stevens and Derrien will run the four junior sides.
An overseas player, who will also be coaching the youth teams, is being lined up to play for the firsts.
Dorchester Cricket Club are welcoming new players, scorers and umpires to their ranks, and anyone wishing to push themselves to play at the highest standard of the game in Dorset with the help of professional coaching is asked to contact Simon Joslin on 262850 or Simon Mitchem on 07867958903.
