WEYMOUTH have snapped up AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Jordan Holmes on an initial one month youth loan deal ahead of tomorrow's clash at Dunstable Town (3pm).

Talented prospect Holmes, an Australian youth international, arrives at the club as cover for injured player-manager Jason Matthews, who has been plagued by a heel injury following the Terras’ league victory at Merthyr Town two weeks ago.

Holmes is expected to go straight into the Weymouth starting XI ahead of gloveman Steve Boore, who was given a taste of first team action after replacing Matthews when he re-aggravated the problem at Bedford Town last time out.

And while the Terras’ chief still insists the club has “big plans” for Boore. The opportunity for Weymouth to add a player of Holmes’ pedigree to the squad was too good for the boss to turn down.

“He comes highly rated and he wants the experience,” Matthews said about youngster Holmes, who joined the Cherries in June 2013 after impressing on a tour to England.

The Terras’ chief added: “Although Steve Boore has been outstanding, the opportunity was there to take him (Holmes) and we can’t run at the club with just one fit goalkeeper.

“We have really big plans for Steve but it was a good opportunity and, experience wise, we are trying to bed Steve in gently.

“Maybe at this minute the chance has come a little bit too soon to him.”
