THE West Dorset Indoor League concluded with a thrilling finish to the Under-14 section with both Martinstown and Beaminster needing to win as the title went down to the last games. The title went to Beaminster who averaged 150.30 runs per game to Martinstown’s 145.35.

Game One: MARTINSTOWN 189-1 beat BERE REGIS 32 by 157 runs

KNOWING that only victory would do, Martinstown produced an outstanding display as they put Bere Regis to the sword with an emphatic win.
Batting first, Martinstown attacked from the start with openers Sean Williams (30no) and Matthew Lappin (26no) smashing 55 runs from the first first overs.
With these two retiring there was no let up from the following batsman as Martinstown looked to post a high score. 
John Stewart (33 no) and Nathen McNab (18) continued to stroke the ball to all corners as the run-rate climbed to more than 15 an over.
McNab went caught off the bowling of Conner Bastin (2-0-46-1) but there was no let up for a valiant Bere as Will Maltby (27no) and Charlie Durrant (18no) continued to dominate the bowlers as Martinstown posted a huge 189-1 off their 12 overs.
Bere’s reply was soon in tatters with Durant (2-1-1-2) producing a first over double wicket maiden.
Will Maltby (2-0-9-3), taking the second over, struck with his first and fourth balls as Bere were reduced to 4-8.
Despite a battling 18 from Bastin, a rampant Martinstown with Lappin (2-0-10-1) taking the final wicket eased to victory with 25 balls to spare and waited for the result of the next game to see if there outstanding effort would be enough to seal the championship.

Game Two: BEAMINSTER 146-5 beat WEYMOUTH 95-4 by 51 runs

HAVING witnessed Martinstown’s emphatic victory over Bere Regis the pressure was on Beaminster as they faced Weymouth with all to play for.
Batting first, Beaminster lost Lewis Keenen (4) to a well-executed run-out in the first over.
However, with James Page (48no) joining Adam Moss (40) at the wicket the runs began to flow as these two took the score to 86 after six overs.
With these two retiring, Weymouth scored some success with Quinn (3-0-32-1) removing the dangerous Fergus Dipple (30) and Tom Baker taking two wickets the run-rate slowed for a few overs.
The returning Moss and Page continued to blunder runs as Beaminster closed on 146-5.
Weymouth looking to cause an upset began in the worst possible fashion with Alford being cleaned bowled for a duck and Quinn being run out for the same score as Beaminster looked to impose themselves on the game. 
Weymouth fought back with Baker (28) and Jack Taylor (8) battling hard against a well-drilled Beaminster attack who gave very little away.
Weymouth despite a valiant effort never got on top of the run-rate as Beaminster ran out winners by 51 runs.
League organiser Grant Neven heaped praise on all the youngster from all the age groups.
He said: “These youngsters have produced cricket of the highest standard week in week out and have been an absolute credit to their respective clubs. 
“Can I also thank Nigel Williams and all his staff from the Osprey Leisure Centre for their continued support and help with running the league.
“Further I think a huge thank you should be given to all the coaches and managers who have given up their time to contribute to the success of the league.”
