DORSET captain Chris Park has called for his batsmen to “dig in” in what he expects to be a “trial against spin” against Cornwall at Truro, in a three-day contest which begins on Sunday (11am).

With his side skittled out for just 122 in their MCCA Knockout Trophy semi-final against Staffordshire in a 50-over game last week, Park is looking for further application from his batters with more time in the game this time around.

Speaking ahead of the Championship clash, he told Echosport: “It was hugely disappointing that we couldn’t chase 172 but it’s another game of cricket this weekend and a chance to bounce back.

“We have won two out of three (Championship games so far this season) but there is still plenty of room for improvement. I’m sure the message will be that we have to put our batting right.”

He added: “It’s going to be a trial against spin.

“They bowl plenty of it and Truro is renowned to be a spinner’s paradise so it’s going to be a big test for our batters, but one we are looking forward to dealing with.

“It would be nice to see the batters all put their hands up, dig in, and show some concentration and the technique to bat long periods again.

“I can forgive it in one-day cricket with the scoreboard pressure but in three-day cricket there are no excuses to be impatient and play rash shots.”

In their own spin department Dorset have decided to opt for Jem Warner over Rob Pack for the contest with Park casting a keen eye on both youngsters, having played club cricket with them at Bournemouth.

“We have decided to go for Jem Warner instead of Rob Pack just because of form really I think,” he added.

“Rob had been bowling beautifully at the beginning of the season and, maybe just over the last couple of weeks, he doesn’t seem to be bowling as well.

“Jem is on top of his game at the moment and deserves his place. We are looking to give him experience and hopefully he can continue his form from the one-day cricket.

“It’s worked well this year that I am back in the area playing and we have a good network at the moment.”

Park also revealed that young left-armer Bradley Currie, who is also set to play for Dorset in Truro, linked up with Surrey in what has been a busy schedule for the teenager this week.
