SALISBURY II 20

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 24

WEYMOUTH & Portland earned back-to-back victories after taking the points at Salisbury.

The Seasiders’ centre Bryn Llewellyn grabbed his side’s first try and then slotted the conversion.

This was closely followed by number eight Dan Bowditch, who also went over the whitewash.

Full-back Chris Lewendon was next to touchdown for Weymouth & Portland with Llewellyn adding the extras.

Centre Jonny Young sealed the victory with a touchdown that went unconverted.

Seasiders’ team boss Vaughan Carter said: “I didn’t really expect to return with a win, I was confident we would perform well after winning at Bournemouth last week, but I thought a victory against a team higher in the league was beyond us.

However, for the second week in a row the lads proved me wrong.

“The game was nip and tuck, they scored first then we managed to get our noses in front. However, we had a purple patch midway into the second half and despite Salisbury scoring another try, we had enough resolve to run down the clock”

“I had a few words with our wing three-quarter JT Moncher before the game. He has only played rugby for a couple of years and is still learning, so I told him that when we are attacking he can come in off his wing and go looking for the ball and that’s just what he did.

“He is a great athlete and after he had a couple of runs, the Salisbury defenders had to keep an eye on him and that created more space for the rest of our backs.

“Also loose forward Sean Murphy had a fine game.”
