WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Paul Maitland has spoken of the affection that the club built for Mark Travers, who has gone back to parent club Bournemouth.

The move was announced on the same day Travers’ Bournemouth under-21 goalkeeping colleague Will Dennis moved to Weymouth on loan.

Maitland said: “We all built up a great affection for Mark and the staff the players and supporters would undoubtedly thank him for his efforts.”

Travers scored a 75-yard goal against Bishop’s Stortford on his debut and Maitland said: “He has had some real memorable moments, obviously none less than the goal scored against tomorrow’s opponents. He is very highly thought of at Weymouth.”

The Terras had been aware for a few weeks that it was a possibility that Bournemouth would want Travers back in the fold to help their numbers in that position due to other goalkeepers being out on loan.

Maitland said: “I would be very surprised to see him in a Weymouth shirt again, purely because I think he is destined for a big future in the game.

“He has been an absolute credit to himself and to Bournemouth.”

Meanwhile, Dennis will start for his debut tomorrow against Bishop’s Stortford at the Bob Lucas Stadium if the paper work has all gone through.

Maitland said: “We are fairly confident that he will be able to hopefully have a seamless transition.

“I know Will is again highly thought of at Bournemouth, they are very confident in his ability and his capabilities in coming into replace Mark.

“We welcome him to the club I am sure he will do very well.
