KERNOW 2

The first match of the day saw Weymouth take on Kernow, who had been relegated from the league above.

Weymouth got off to a great start with Carl Neal linking up well with the attacking line however, despite leading 24-19, Kernow came back but Weymouth held their own and saw out the set to take it 28-26.

Weymouth then struggled to find the superb form they had shown in the previous eight sets.

Multiple unforced errors in serving and defence saw Kernow take the second and third sets to give them a 2-1 lead as they defended well, particularly in the block.

This was the first time the Weymouth outfit had trailed this season and while Kernow started well in the fourth set, some tactical time outs and substitutions saw Weymouth claw back the deficit.

An inspired performance from libero James Hollands gave Weymouth options in attack and Ian Denslow held his nerve when serving as they took the set 26-24.

In the fifth and final set the home side cheered on by a a large supporting crowd and the team responded as Weymouth started to play with the aggression and precision that has seen them top this season's league.

Liam Tewkesbury found some form at the right time and a run of serves saw Weymouth close out the set and win the match 3-2.

Weymouth then took on second place Yeovil who had earlier in the day beaten Kernow convincingly.

Weymouth made wholesale changes with the likes of Oldrid, Ryan Stout and Elliot Sawyer starting from the off.

They came out of the blocks firing and quickly led 10-3 thanks to some great reception from Sawyer which allowed Oldrid to utilise the hitters to the team's advantage.

Stout went back with a run of six jump serves and with some fine blocking from middle hitters Sam Groom and Michael Powell as Weymouth closed out the first set 25-8.

The second set saw a much tighter affair with both teams doing well to keep the set within a couple of points.

Oldrid made a sweet connection with outside hitters Ben Stokey and Sean Hendry as Weymouth edged the set 25-23.

In the third set Weymouth started like the first racing to a comfortable 10 point advantage 15-5 through some great defence from Sawyer and Stout.

With several substitutes made the squad closed out the third set 25-9 as the team remain undefeated in the league having played 10 and won 10.
