POOLE TOWN 224 (7pts) lost to DORCHESTER 250-5 (20pts) by 26 runs

DORCHESTER continued their storming start to the season with a fourth consecutive win at Poole Town in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier Division.

The county town side won the toss and elected to bat first and had a good start at the crease.

The opening partnership of Dan Belt and Quentin Miller recorded one shy of a half-century before the latter was caught for 23 by David Miller.

However, Sid Cavallaro then came on but could only score eight before he was bowled by Dameth Gunawardena.

Eral Anderson then hit 10 fours on the way to a superb 97 and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings.

Will McKay had a good turn at the crease as he scored 47 before he was bowled by Joe Riddell.

Dorchester fired themselves to a final total of 250 at the end of the 50 overs, with Anderson and Josh Richardson still at the crease.

In reply, Poole started well before Robin Lutman was bowled by Simon Mitchem with the home side having 68 on the board.

Luc Kear scored 59 before he went to a fine effort from Jack Walkett who bowled and caught him with Poole on 103.

However, with 25 overs gone, Poole found themselves with 106 on the board, needing to step up the pace if they were to catch Dorchester’s total.

Nick Roe caught Lewis Marais with Poole edging closer on 147-3 and Roe was again in the action when he stumped Ben Edgell.

Badrul Alam put in a superb innings for Poole and managed 70 before he was caught by Joshua Richardson.

The pace of Poole’s efforts had slowed however, as the total required looked just a step too far.

It proved to be as superb late bowling from George Foot helped whittle away Poole’s lower order.

Ultimately Dan Belt secured the win when he bowled Andy Groome to end the home side’s resistance.

Dorchester captain James Dunham said: “It was a very, very good game. We batted superbly, Dan and Quentin started off the innings well, Will McKay batted well for 47 but Eral Anderson showed his class again. He is a batsman in form with 97 not out.

“It is great to watch, he batted very well.

“It was a very good pitch at Poole Park. To get 250 in the first innings and 230 in the second there was a lot of runs there.

“It showed our depth with the bowling, it was close and we bowled well, Jack Walker played very well again, we took some great catches and towards the end of the innings our depth really showed and we pushed through.”
