MARTINSTOWN captain Ed Nichols has called for more “ruthlessness” from his side ahead of their Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League trip to Stalbridge tomorrow (1pm).

After last week’s 86-run dismissal of bottom club Sherborne, Nichols called for his batsmen to hit bigger scores to elevate them into “270” territory.

And now the Martinstown gloveman is also keen for a more clinical streak in the field.

He told Echosport: “Stalbridge have got a few experienced players but it’s a good pitch up there. The outfield will be quick so it could be a high-scoring game – it’s a true pitch.

“It’s that ruthlessness after a couple of quick wickets and partnerships have started to bed in. It’s just getting on top of that.

“Teams that play well, they build pressure. I think we’ve got to do more of that – that’s probably another area we want to target.”

Victory against Sherborne represented a second consecutive win and Nichols added: “Stalbridge are a few places down so it’s another important game followed up by Bere. We did really well last time around so we’re looking to repeat that.

“We’re playing well as a side and hopefully we can keep that momentum going the next few weeks.”

Martinstown could make at least four changes in the form of Monty Payne, George Pope, Teddy Andrews and Ryan Chase replacing Lee House, Sean Williams, Liam Banfield and Charlie Durant.
