WEYMOUTH captain Harry Mitchell believes the Seasiders are the “best all-round team” in County Division Two after their nervy one-wicket win over Witchampton last week.

The Seasiders required 31 from the final four overs with two wickets remaining and managed to beat the Witches on the penultimate ball when match-winner Shafeek Urumancheri (36no) struck a boundary.

With Weymouth’s highest-scoring batsmen coming in at seven and nine on that occasion, Mitchell highlighted the strength in depth the Seasiders possess.

Mitchell, whose side are nine points off leaders Wimborne & Colehill Seconds, said: “When you look at seven and nine with the top two scores, teams will be looking at us thinking ‘there’s 20s, 30s, 40s right down the order’.

“Later on there’s so much damage that we can do. Until you bowl us out you can’t let up against us, I think we’re the strongest batting line-up in the league from one to 11.

“There are players in other teams that are good and they carry their team, and we do have star players, but everybody turns up in our team week-in, week-out. I just think we’re a really good side, all-round we’re the best the side in the league.”

Meanwhile, Weymouth travel to Blandford hoping to seal eight wins in a row tomorrow (1.30pm).

The Seasiders currently sit second in the table, six points behind Wimborne & Colehill and level on points with third-placed Marnhull, while Blandford sit fifth, 39 points behind Weymouth.

John Wilson misses out through a shoulder injury, while Jonny Armfield, Neil Walton and Dave Blackman are unavailable but Paul Collins and Jack Sapsworth come up from the second team and Lloyd Beals is back.
