DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson feels the Magpies “have no time to wallow in self pity” ahead of tonight’s Evo-Stik Southern Premier South derby clash with Wimborne Town at Cuthbury (7.45pm).

Thompson’s men produced a lacklustre display in a 1-0 loss to Metropolitan Police in their season-opener at the Avenue Stadium on Saturday, Jack Mazzone’s sixth-minute strike proving decisive.

Only on-loan striker Cameron Allen, left-back Neil Martin and sub Dom Panesar-Dower registered shots on target for the Magpies against the Met in a poor start to their campaign.

Speaking to Echosport ahead of the meeting with Wimborne, who defeated Dorchester 2-0 in the Dorset Senior Cup last season, Thompson is looking to see more from his attacking unit.

He said: “We haven’t got time to wallow in self pity, we’ve got to get on with the game. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do as to what I can change.

“(We needed more from) strikers and attacking midfielders and wing-backs when we went to a three for the last 15 minutes. Wing-backs have the licence to go forward when you go to a three, all-sorts.”

Thompson did praise Panesar-Dower for his influence when coming on for the final 29 minutes against the Surrey-based Blues.

He said: “He got the shot off and he found himself on the ball quite a few times, lost it a few times, but won it back a few times as well.

“Actually having a shot, he’s done more than the five (forwards) have done in 70 minutes.

“In 20 minutes he’s had one shot which five players that played in more forward positions haven’t been able to do, whether it’s 90 minutes or 35. It’s up to me and the players to respond.”

Elsewhere, Dorchester have been boosted by the return to training of Aaron Rodriguez from a broken foot, while Harry Kite (concussion) continues to be assessed by parent club Exeter City.

Thompson said: “Aaron has started training again and we do miss his quality with crossing and shooting.

“Harry’s fit, or hopefully, I don’t know for sure yet. It’s part of the concussion procedure, he’s being monitored all the time by Exeter so I’ll have to look at that situation.”
