DORCHESTER Town midfielder Luke Winsper believes the Magpies have set their “standard” for the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South season after a superb 4-2 win over Wimborne Town.

Winsper, playing in a slightly more advanced midfield role, scored twice in a crushing first-half display that saw Steve Thompson’s men take a 4-0 half-time lead, with further goals from Cameron Murray and Billy Lowes.

And the former Weymouth man was so impressed with the Magpies’ first-half showing, he labelled it as “unbelievable” after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Metropolitan Police.

Winsper said: “Saturday, we were in the changing room and we all knew it was unacceptable. We knew we had to put it right, and we did.

“The first-half performance was unbelievable, that’s our standard now. Second half was not so good, Harry (Kite) had to come off with his head injury.

“But that first-half performance is our standard now, we’ve got to do that every single week.”

Winsper also admitted the Magpies were determined to avoid a repeat of their trip to Farnborough last season, which saw Boro claw back a 3-0 half-time deficit to draw 3-3.

He said: “It’s like Farnborough. This was definitely better than Farnborough, but we said ‘let’s not do that’.

“We should have scored three or four second half.”

Commenting on his brace, Winsper told Echosport: “I only scored one last year because I had to play in a deeper role but Tommo’s pushed me up a bit this year.

“I’m happy with the first one – I usually only score screamers! The second one was nice, as a central midfielder you’ve got to be following them in.

“The keeper made a good save and I’ve just tapped it in. I thought I was going to have another one but I got a bit excited and passed it to their centre-half instead.

“I’m buzzing, I beat my tally, I’ve just got to keep building it.”

Winsper insists the Magpies’ attentions now turn to putting in a good performance away to Steve Claridge’s Salisbury City on Saturday.

He said: “All of us have given 100 per cent. Saturday was completely, completely different.

“We’ve got Salisbury on Saturday, they’re one of the favourites to win the league. We have to go there and give a good performance and see it how it goes.”
