DORCHESTER director of football Shaun Brooks says team spirit in the camp is the best he has known it since he arrived.

The county town side, who face fellow Blue Square South strugglers Maidenhead United (3pm) tomorrow sit two points adrift of safety with no league win since September 15.

But victory over Ryman Premier League outfit Worthing on Tuesday night in the FA Trophy has boosted the confidence of the young squad.

Brooks said: "Confidence comes with winning and the team spirit is the best I've known it to be since I arrived at the club. If we can perform like we did at Worthing on Tuesday then I'm confident we can do well at Maidenhead because we have got enough in us to win the game.

"I think we are starting to see the younger players getting to grips with the standard of football, and we've been improving in recent weeks."

Defeat tomorrow could lead to a winter of discontent around Dorchester, but Brooks won't be concerned should his side lose to a team, who are also nicknamed the Magpies, and are yet to win a home game all season.

He added: "There's still plenty of points to play for and we are only just entering December. Every game is a big one but it's too early to say, if we were to lose, that we would be in dire straits.

"I recognise the fact that we need to get more points on the board, which we will do if we take our chances and stop conceding sloppy goals.

"There have been lots of games this season where we have led to our downfall. I've had a look at the opposition and they are a quick side who can cause us problems."

Other than long-term absentee Terry Parker, midfielder Jon Docker is the only player likely to miss the trip to York Road with a knee problem.

Full back Ryan Hill has returned from his loan spell at British Gas Business League Bashley while new loan signing Sonny Cobbs is expected to feature tomorrow.

Brooks said: "Jones Awuah and Jake Smeaton are back from illness so apart from Jon and Terry we are pretty much at full-strength.

"Ryan's loan went well and his match fitness has improved so he's back with us again."
