WEYMOUTH boss Jason Tindall wants his side to revel in the opportunity to become history-makers.

The Terras travel to Cambridge United tomorrow (3pm) knowing they could become the first Weymouth side to win through to the third round of the FA Cup for 25 years.

On December 11, 1982, the Terras produced an amazing second-round comeback to beat Cardiff City 3-2 at Ninian Park and Tindall is hoping his team can pull off a similar feat at the Abbey Stadium.

Weymouth went on to lose 1-0 at Cambridge after their success over the Bluebirds two- and-a-half decades ago but it was a run that is still fondly remembered by the club's fans.

Tindall, whose side will enter tomorrow's game off the back of successive Blue Square Premier defeats against Altrincham and York City, said: "It is a massive match. The club has not got past the second round for a long time and I think everybody is aware of what it could do financially if we get through.

"It could mean a trip to Old Trafford or the Emirates Stadium and if we did get a plum tie like that it would sort the club out for the next 18 months and beyond.

"It is just as big on the playing side as well. The players want to get as far as they can and the publicity it could give them could be huge, and you never know what that could lead to.

"There is so much to play for and I know the lads will do their utmost to make sure the club is in that hat for the third round draw, which will be made on Sunday (around 3.15pm)."

Cambridge are currently third in the Blue Square Premier table and are on a nine-game unbeaten run but Tindall is not fazed by that.

He said: "This week we have just been trying to keep things as normal as possible. We have played Cambridge already this season and recently I went and watched them play Burton Albion so we know what they are about.

"They are flying high at the moment and they have played teams like Torquay United, Aldershot Town and Exeter City and either drawn against them or beat them so it's going to be a tough game.

"Saying that, when they came to our place it finished 2-2 and I thought we were unlucky to just come away with a point.

"The most important thing is that we get our mindset right and approach it in the right way.

"The fact that several players, who have been out injured recently, came through the friendly against Torquay on Tuesday was a massive bonus and hopefully we will have close to a fully fit squad to choose from.

"We know we let ourselves down and even more importantly the fans down in our last two games and the only ones who can put that right is us as a group.

"Not many sides have managed to beat Cambridge this season and I expect some people have written us off already but the same happened when we went to Eastbourne Borough in the last round.

"Eastbourne were unbeaten but we beat them 4-0 and there is no reason why we cannot go to Cambridge and put on a similar performance and get through.

"We will be going there confident and I know we can give them a lot of problems."

Jason Matthews is expected to keep his place between the posts after his fantastic performance against York but the rest of the positions in Weymouth's line up are up for grabs.

With the likes of Marcus Browning, Simon Weatherstone, Stuart Douglas, Kyle Critchell, and Justin Roberts all keen to start, Tindall faces a selection headache for the first time in a long while.

He said: "The players who have not been involved recently have got a real chance to stake a claim now and some of them performed exceptionally well on Tuesday.

"It is a nice problem to have and there will be changes but what those changes will be, we will have to wait and see."
