DORSET are facing an embarrassing whitewash by Somerset in the Area 19 finals of the English Indoor BA Champion-ships.

Eight finals to date this season have resulted in eight defeats for Dorset who have only three more - the singles, pairs and fours - in which to strike back over the next week.

The latest showdown to go Somerset's way was the triples in which Ryan Stone, Dave Smith and Neil Burroughs of Moonfleet 2000 buckled 20-3 to Andrew Colebrooke, Russell Francis and the inimitable Graham Shadwell at Yeovil.

With lead Colebrooke and international Shadwell in irresistible form Clarrie Dunbar dominated from the start moving 6-0 ahead after four ends.

By the tenth end the Dorset cause was a forlorn hope with the score at 14-1 and though Burroughs responded with singles from the next two ends the Weymouth trio conceded three doubles in a row before raising the white flag after 15 ends.

This Saturday that man Shad-well goes to Dolphin (9.30am) for the singles against Dorchester's Nick Voss while alongside Mike Gale and Pete Read tackle Bert Hoad and Mike Martin (Yeovil) in the pairs at the same time.

Smith and Burroughs join forces with John Crabb and skip Barry Patterson for the fours against Paul Denslow's Ilminster rink at Bridport on Tuesday evening (6.30).

n Former Dorchester skip Mike Tritton - representing the area with Yeovil team-mates Mike Martin and Peter Colby - were pipped 18-17 in the first round (last 32) of the national play-offs for the EIBA over-50 triples at Northampton.

n There was also an instant exit for area mixed pairs champions Angela Watkins and Steve Turner (Ilminster) who fell 23-18 to West Denton from Newcastle.

Bournemouth carried the Dorset banner into the semi-finals of the Egham Trophy by beating Bridgwater BCL 80-76.
