WEYMOUTH loanee Jack Compton has revealed how his father tried to draft him in at Dorchester Town.

Magpies' assistant-manager Paul Compton spoke with West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray about his son's availability but was knocked back due to his side's Blue Square South status.

The county town outfit's number two is very good friends with Terras' boss John Hollins however, he did not have anything to do with the winger's eventual arrival at the Wessex Stadium.

Jack Compton said: "My dad did try to get me at Dorchester but West Brom would not let me go but he did not have anything to do with me coming here. John Hollins just called Tony Mowbray and it went from there.

"I am enjoying the experience down here and I certainly enjoyed the other night against Torquay United. It was just a shame Saturday's game was called off at Northwich.

"Training here is a lot different compared to West Brom but it is good and I am now looking forward to the match with Histon this weekend."

The 19-year-old has signed a month's loan deal with the Terras but it is unlikely that will be extended especially with higher league clubs showing an interest in gaining his services.

He added: "I signed pro at West Brom last summer and it is fantastic to be at such a great club.

"I was originally at Portsmouth but West Brom came in and signed me as a youth player and since Tony Mowbray came in I have been training with the first team squad which has been fantastic.

"Earlier this season I actually smashed my cartilage and had to spend four months out but I came back and played in the reserves and now the manager wants me to go out on loan to get some games and that is why I am here.

"He told me to play well and get more interest from other sides which I have done. My aim now is to score a few goals here and then hopefully go on loan to a higher club."

Jack Compton has certainly settled well at the Terras and from what he has seen so far he is adamant that the club can do well under Hollins.

He said: "The lads here are great. There is a great atmosphere in the changing room and a fantastic team spirit, which was particularly shown against Torquay.

"We defended superbly in that game and Stuart Beavon up front looked really dangerous, as if he could score at anytime.

"There is no doubt that this team is in a false position and should be a lot higher than they are, and I am sure now John is here the club will be able to achieve that.

"John is a really good laugh and a great character but he also knows when to be serious. Everyone respects him immensely and I am sure he can bring success here."
