DORSET are prepared to face an “extremely talented” Wales side in their final Durant NCCA Championship game of the season at Wimborne tomorrow (11am).

Luke Webb’s side are winless in three games but sit second behind Cornwall, who have already sewn up Division Two.

Dorset have taken two draws in that time and they sit level on points with Wales and Wiltshire, just one point above bottom side Shropshire.

And Webb is excited to face a Welsh side he believes are going places in red-ball cricket.

He told Echosport: “With Wales, we haven’t played them in red-ball cricket for a while but you tend to get a youthful side that will be extremely talented.

“Welsh cricket’s been quite strong for a while and we’ll have to play well.

“They’ve got quite a different side in red ball compared to white ball, so there’ll probably be some players we haven’t come up against before.

“It will be a good problem-solving opportunity for our boys to play some new faces.”

A feature of Dorset’s past two games against Shropshire and Wiltshire has been attacking declarations.

While one led to Dorset suffering defeat to Shropshire, the Wiltshire declaration was more arranged.

Webb insisted he had no regrets with the former, adding: “We want to play positive cricket.

“With the Shropshire game, I don’t have any regrets with the declaration and setting a target that was Shropshire’s record fourth-innings chase.

“Going back, I wouldn’t change that. You’ve got to give them absolute credit on a very good batting wicket.

“They chased it down and it was some exceptional batting.

“With the Wiltshire game, once they went past the follow-on, the chances of either team winning normally and winning the division had diminished.

“So, I was happy to set up a run chase with their captain to try and keep the game as competitive as possible.”

Dorset have named a 13-man squad for the match, with Lucas del Bianco making his debut.

Dorset under-18s Ben Rogers and Kieran Laird are 12th men.

Joseph Eckland is not involved due to his Hampshire commitments, the batter blasting 72 from 55 balls to help his county beat Yorkshire in the One-Day Cup on Thursday.

Dorset: Bartlett, del Bianco, A Eckland, Fletcher, Gordon, Pattemore, Royan, Scott, Tripcony, Webb, Young. 12th men: Rogers, Laird.
