THE change of venues from Magna Road to the County Ground does not disadvantage Bridport in their Dorset Senior Cup semi-final with Hamworthy Rec, according to Chris Herbst.

Bridport must travel eastwards to the Dorset FA’s headquarters after two postponements at St Mary’s Field, caused by waterlogging.

And with both clubs agreeing to move the match from grass to the County Ground’s 3G surface, the fixture seems set to be completed at the third attempt.

While Bridport are more accustomed to playing on grass in the South West Peninsula League, the Bees occasionally train on 3G pitches and did so this Saturday in preparation for the tie.

Bridport boss Herbst said: “We’re happy with that, I said to get it on because I want to play the game.

“They’re in the same boat, where they’ve had quite a few games off. No-one wants to be playing Tuesday-Thursday so when the opportunity came up, it was a no-brainer.

“The games we’ve played on the 3G, we’ve actually played all right and we train on a 3G. I’ve got no issues with that.”

Four consecutive postponed fixtures at St Mary’s Field have given Bridport a two-and-a-half-week break between fixtures, their last being the penalty shootout win at Newquay.

Herbst, however, maintains the Bees are fully prepared fitness-wise to compete against in-form Rec, who have only been defeated in cup competitions this season.

“Funnily enough, I looked at our home fixtures and we’ve only played three home games since the 18th of November,” Herbst said.

“It’s madness, but we’ve trained and everyone’s been ticking over.

“Obviously, match fitness is different but everyone looks after themselves, so I’ve got no qualms.”

Bridport are boosted by the return of striker Sol Ayunga (ankle) and Will Gape, but Tom Richardson (knee) requires surgery and Kieren Daniels is unavailable.
