WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson believes his decision to loan out winger Joel Rollinson and defender Anthony Cheshire has been justified.

Wilkinson sent the pair on loan to Step 3 clubs Beaconsfield Town and Bracknell Town respectively to top up their match minutes.

Both Rollinson and Cheshire were regular starters up to that point and have now come back into the Weymouth fold after their time on loan.

Rollinson was last week recalled to the squad that faced Torquay, although he went unused.

And Cheshire experienced a similar fate on Saturday as Weymouth beat Aveley 2-0, with Rollinson starting.

Tyrique Clarke was also recalled after spells at Dorchester and Harrow Borough.

Highlighting the performance of Rollinson especially, Wilkinson felt his planning a month ahead of time had been vindicated.

He told Echosport: “Well, I think people see now how I always work a month or two ahead.

“I got them to go out and get games and they came back. Joel, you could tell he played five games on the bounce for Beaconsfield.

“He was absolutely outstanding. He should’ve scored but he played an unbelievable role on the right-hand side against a brilliant left-back.

“He came in for a job and has done well. Pity Ant didn’t get on, but the back four were fantastic.

“I didn’t send them out on loan for no reason, I sent on out to get match fit. That worked, and to get Tyrique minutes as well, that was brilliant.”

Meanwhile, Weymouth continue to work on deals to extend the loan spells of centre-backs Naz Bakrin and Corey Panter.
