DORSET captain Luke Webb has set his sights on T20 glory this season as his county prepares to face Wiltshire at Wimborne’s The Leaze ground tomorrow (11am).

Ahead of the double bill, Dorset have poached former Wiltshire seamer Matt Burton for all three formats.

Burton has made huge strides in the county second XI circuit, featuring for Hampshire and Worcestershire last season.

He joins Dorset with Webb’s men keen to go all in the way in the NCCA T20 competition, having done “everything but win” the event in recent years.

Asked if Dorset have unfinished business in the T20 format, Webb told Echosport: “Potentially.

“We’ve pretty much done everything but win it, we got to two finals days, we’ve got to the final, we’ve consistently played well.

“If you look at it from that angle, it would be nice to get over the line.

“But, I’m well aware every county will be thinking the same thing. A new season brings new players and new challenges, so we’ll just try and set out and play the best we can, see where it takes us.

“It’s been a competition we’ve historically played well in, not quite being able to get over the final hurdle.”

Like the majority of other counties, Dorset’s preparations have been made trickier by an unusually wet winter so far.

Webb said: “We’ve had our winter programme and our indoor stuff, which has been great as always.

“Obviously, we haven’t managed to get outdoors yet. We had a pre-season schedule in place but it got cancelled.

“It’s beyond our control and a lot of teams will be in the same boat, so I’m not too concerned.”

On Wiltshire, he added: “We’ve seen their side. It’s very familiar. You’ll get an aggressive, attacking side that will be dangerous.

“Any team you play against, especially in Twenty20 at NCCA level now, on their day, can quite easily turn up and beat you.

“You’ve got to be bang on your game. It only takes a good bowling spell or a batter to have a really good day out.

“Wiltshire have certainly got enough match-winners to do that so we’ll have to play very well if we want to start the season with a couple of wins.

“We’ve signed Matt, he’s a seam bowler who’s had a very successful couple of years.

“The opportunity came to bring him into our group. It was an area of our squad that we identified we’d like to add depth to, so he comes in as an opening bowler. He’ll make his debut.”
