South West Counties Under-18s League

DORCHESTER TOWN 0

MERTHYR TYDFIL 1

A CERI Morgan goal mid-way through the first half inflicted an opening day defeat on Dorchester Town Under-18s in South West Counties League Division Two.

Lewis Trevett went close to bringing the teenage Magpies back on level terms before half-time but for some good defending from Steve Martin and Kalum Hynes in the Welsh outfit's defence.

Further chances fell to Dorchester in the second half, in which the Magpies were much improved and were unlucky not to get a point when Neil Kellaway and Adam Taylor both went close but could not find a way past Miarus Clyne in the visitors' goal.

With the home side pushing forward looking for an equaliser it was Merthyr who nearly scored in the last minute but for a great save from Sam Filkins.

The defeat, Dorchester's first game of the new campaign, leaves them sixth in the table.

Magpies: Filkins, Amey, Critchel, Johnson, Taylor, C Kellaway, N Kellaway, Hopkins, Trevett, (Lee 47 (Carter 80)), Flood, Spencer (Lake 60). Subs not used: Jones, Butcher.
