KANGAROOS 3

BISHOPS CAUNDLE 1

A DOUBLE from summer signing Matt Moors inspired Kangaroos to an impressive victory over Bishops Caundle in the Dorset Senior League.

Midfielder Ian McDonald gave the Dorchester outfit the lead early on before forward Moors increased the deficit with well-taken strikes either side of half-time.

Other chances went begging before an unfortunate Chris Clarke headed into his own net to give the North Dorset visitors a consolation goal.

Kangaroos started brightly against their newly-promoted opponents at a sun-bathed Dorchester Rec and it did not take them long to go in front.

Some good work down the left-hand side from Sam Pearce released Moors, whose pinpoint pull-back was slotted home by the advancing McDonald.

Winger Liam O'Connor twice went close and McDonald had a header cleared off the line before Moors made it two soon after.

He latched on to a through ball from the hard-working Adam Rendell and rounded the Bishops Caundle keeper before sliding the ball into the empty net.

Rick Buddin's men, with Clarke imperious at the heart of their defence, increased their advantage soon after the restart.

Left-back Rob Waite released the superb Moors again and he rode robust challenges from two defenders before firing home at the second attempt.

There was some reward for the visitors' industrious second-half display late on, but it came in fortuitous circumstances.

A superbly-delivered free-kick caused confusion in the home penalty box and found the head of the unlucky Clarke, leaving keeper Stuart Beasley with no chance.

Kangaroos' skipper Glen Matthews said: "There are still areas we can improve on but we played some nice stuff and to get underway with a win was fantastic."

Kangaroos: Beasley, Green, Belt, Clarke, Waite, O'Connor, Matthews, McDonald (Francis), Pearce, Rendell (King), Moors.
