WEYMOUTH'S Paul Goodison enjoyed a fine day on day two of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta.
Competing in the Laser class at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, the Beijing Olympic gold medallist was back on top form winning the last race of the day and finishing second in another, leaving him in second place and seven points off the lead.
Goodison's training partner and London 2012 Olympic hopeful Nick Thompson is the overall leader winning three out of the six races.
In the competitive RS:X windsurfing class Spain's Blanca Manchon is leading the women's 8.5 class.
Weymouth's Olympic bronze medallist Bryony Shaw is currently third.
Beijing Olympic bronze medallist, Shahar Zubari, from Israel, bagged two firsts and two seconds in the men's competition, to lie 10 points ahead of Weymouth's Nick Dempsey and Ali Masters (GBR).
The wind provided moderate brisk easterly breezes, creating some challenging races for the 300 sailors yesterday.
The event has proven a huge draw for many of the top foreign sailors to gain experience and knowledge of the next Olympic sailing venue.
The regatta has entrants from Bulgaria, Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Many sailors are enjoying the excellent windy conditions found in Britain, and are looking forward to the 2012 Games.
