WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats have been drawn against nearest rivals the Plymouth Devils in the semi-finals of the Conference League play-offs.

The league season is yet to be complete but the make-up of the top four has already been determined with Boston and Redcar claiming the other two spots.

The first leg of the semi-final will take place in Plymouth on Friday, October 11 with the return at the Wessex Stadium a day later.

The victor will then go on to race against the winner of the Boston versus Redcar clash for the right to be crowned Conference League champions.

The Wildcats and the Devils have shared eight meetings this year already with Plymouth winning five of those and Weymouth tasting victory three times.

Wildcats' chairman Phil Bartlett, whose team lost three away fixtures on the trot from Saturday to Monday, said: "You've got to race someone out of the four which is the best the league has to offer.

"I'm sure our lads will rise to it after reflecting on a bad few days for us, and hopefully they'll pull their socks up.

"The three defeats were not crucial in my eyes as we are already in the play-offs so it's no great loss, however, I'm sure the boys weren't thinking that going into the meetings."

To be in with a great chance of making the final, the Radipole Lane outfit will need to overcome their poor record at Plymouth's St Boniface Arena - a track the Wildcats have not won at in their recent history.

Weymouth lost three times in Devon last year and have been beaten in each of the four away meetings this season to date.

The Wildcats' preparations for the play-offs begin this Saturday with a Challenge meeting against the Oxford Cheetahs at the Wessex Stadium (7.15pm).
