WEYMOUTH Doonan Wildcats' team manager Jem Dicken believes tonight's Challenge meeting at the Wessex Stadium against the Oxford Cheetahs (7.15pm) will be a chance for his riders to "redeem themselves".

Despite being able to celebrate a secured place in the end of season Conference League play-offs, the Wildcats suffered three away defeats in as many days last weekend.

And Dicken was not a happy man, especially after Monday night's 64-28 humiliation at the Boston Barra-cudas, which he labelled as "abysmal".

The visit of the Cheetahs though, provides an opportunity to wipe the slate clean.

Dicken said: "There's not really anything to say about the weekend's performances, I just can't think of any positives that can be taken out of any of the meetings.

"Tonight we have a home Challenge meeting against Oxford and it's a chance for the lads to redeem themselves."

And club chairman Phil Bartlett is calling on the town to get behind the Wildcats as preparations for their play-off semi-final clash with Plymouth get underway.

He said: "Everything is geared towards the play-offs now and it will be the final challenge for our riders after all the hard work they've put in.

"The lads were hugely disappointed after last weekend. It would have been nice to have finished top of the league but last year Plymouth finished top and Scunthorpe won in the play-offs.

"We've still got to race at Rye House in our final league fixture so we can still move up the table.

"I just want to urge people to come and support the lads ready for the play-offs."

The Wildcats are unchanged for tonight's Challenge meeting where Tim Webster, who broke an ankle seven weeks ago, will be in attendance.

Of Webster's recovery, Bartlett added: "Tim will be watching the lads ride and he'll have a quick race around the track after. He's had his cast off and he's trying to get himself fit."
