Under-14 Division Two

SHERBORNE 2 WEYMOUTH WANDERERS 3

A BRACE of goals from Alex Butcher brought home the bacon for the Wanderers but they did it the hard way, fighting back from two goals down.

The visitors were slow to settle and went behind within five minutes when Sherborne netted from close range.

It got worse on 20 minutes when a route-one clearance eluded everyone and as Sam Dalkins advanced off his line, the Sherborne forward nipped in front of him to score with a well-judged lob.

Wanderers finally got a foothold in the game when Scott Harding played a lovely low through ball to Rob Townley who raced on and knocked the ball neatly past the advancing keeper.

In the second half, Wanderers stepped up a gear and put in a really committed performance to create a number of chances.

The equaliser came within five minutes of the restart when Butcher, in acres of space, had time to collect a through-pass before placing his shot beyond the home keeper.

After that Ryan Price managed to poke an easy chance wide from close range and saw a stinging drive well saved before the winning goal arrived when a mistake by the home keeper allowed Butcher to convert into an empty net.

Although there were some excellent performances all over the pitch the Wanderers’ Man of the Match award went to Adam Cowne for a very good performance at left-back.
