DEAN Janaway has stepped down as captain of Weymouth Cricket Club’s first team with Dave Trotter taking over the role.
The switch was sealed at the Seasiders’ AGM where changes were made across the board following a disappointing year for all three sides.
Steve Budd is no longer second team skipper while Craig Johnson has relinquished his position in charge of the thirds.
In their places come John Ryan and Joe Trevett respectively.
Meanwhile, Sean Fitzgerald has swapped Bridport for Weymouth to become the club’s new head coach.
Incoming captain Trotter said: “We’ve got to improve throughout the club, we’ve got to be fitter and we will address that.
“Dean just felt he needed a fresh change and the chance to concentrate on his own game. I’ll certainly try to improve on last year but we’ll just have to take each game as it comes.
“We want to play hard but play fair and to get the enjoyment factor back again. We start training this Saturday at Weymouth College (3-5pm) and anyone new is welcome.
“We’ve already received some sponsorship from Weymouth Tandoori but welcome more and we are hoping to secure a deal with Portland Spa to use their gym.”
Last season, Weymouth finished fourth in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League, which was won by rivals Dorchester, while the seconds and thirds were both relegated from Division One and Division Four respectively having claimed just five wins between them.
