MORE than 100 Year Three schoolchildren took part in a festival of orienteering and outdoor activities.

The event, which took place at St Mary’s Middle School, was organised for the Puddletown family of schools, which includes Broadmayne, Cheselbourne, Frome Valley, Milborne St Andrew, Piddle Valley and Puddletown First Schools.

A team of 25 sports leaders from St Mary’s were trained and ran the festival throughout the morning.

Co-ordinator Andrea Williams, who is part of the West Dorset School Sports Partnership, organised the event.

Prior to the festival, Williams worked with all six first schools in delivering some orienteering sessions within school to prepare the children for the festival.

She said: “This has been the first kind of festival of this scale in Puddletown for this age group.

“The children have really benefited from being in the outdoors and working together co-operatively.

“I must thank Di Tilsley for all her help and support in assisting with the festival and offering advice.”
