WEYMOUTH Sports’ co-manager Steve Alcock has warned Stourpaine to be prepared for a “backlash” tomorrow when they visit Cranford Avenue in the Dorset Senior League (3pm).

The Seasiders are still smarting from last week’s penalty shoot-out exit against Bridport Reserves in the semi-finals of the Dorset Senior Trophy and Alcock is expecting a positive response from his players as they get back to focusing on catching Parley Sports at the top of the table.

Alcock said: “We had a chat among ourselves in training and there was good banter going on which was an encouraging sign that none of them were harbouring too many thoughts about last weekend.

“We have six games left in the league and if we win them all we will win the title so that is what we have to focus on now.

“It is all still in our own hands but it will not be easy as we have some very tough games against Stourpaine twice, Easton United, Okeford United, Bishops Caundle and Parley.

“Stourpaine are on a good run at the moment, having won four of their last six, but I am expecting there to be a backlash from our lads and a good performance, as I know they are all keen to wipe last week’s defeat from their memories.”

Alcock (work commitments) and Jimmy Hallett (holiday) will both miss tomorrow’s encounter for the Seasiders while Alex Haynes is a doubt. Marcus Biles could be recalled.

Sports sit 11 points adrift of Parley in second place, with three games in hand.
