WEYMOUTH manager Alan Lewer is expected to revert back to a four-man defence tomorrow after Callum Hart and Jordan Collins were declared fit and available for the trip to Eastbourne Borough (3pm).

The Terras sit just two points above the Blue Square Premier drop-zone, following a dire run of nine successive defeats, and Lewer is hoping a more balanced side will bring about a much-needed change in fortunes.

He said: “I have not had any full-backs. I had no Callum Hart or Jordan Collins for the last two games so I had to go 3-5-2, which is not a system I like playing.

“I have always preferred four at the back and with Callum and Jordan both available this week I now have two natural left-backs again, which means I will be able to go back to 4-5-1.

“I am trying to put round pegs into round holes rather than round pegs into square holes, and hopefully that will help bring about an improvement because at the moment we look a very poor side.”

Weymouth could also be boosted by the return to fitness of player-coach Marcus Browning. Lewer added: “Marcus is looking like he could be fit but Stephen Reed has one more game to serve of a five-match suspension and Pierre Joseph-Dubois is still out injured.

“The other one we have to be careful with is Cameron Mawer who has Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease and cannot train during the week. He has to take tablets at the moment just to get him through a game.

“Due to a lack of training facilities, we have been training on the main pitch this week but we will not get together as a full squad until later today as some of the loan players have been training with their parent clubs.”

When asked what he expects from Eastbourne tomorrow, Lewer said: “I know two of their players, Daniel Brown and Neil Jenkins, very well and they are a strong outfit, which have done exceptionally well.

“Their pitch is not the best and they like to smash it forward and get it into good areas early so it promises to be another very tough test.”
