Under-9 League Cup Final

DORCHESTER RAIDERS 3 WIMBORNE TOWN 1

DORCHESTER Raiders wrapped up their season by lifting another piece of silverware with a hard-fought win over Wimborne Town in the Dorset League Under-9s Cup final.

The Raiders’ victory was built on a solid rearguard of goalkeeper Ben Bilton and defenders Jake Mansley and Jack Cox, who were outstanding throughout.

Their determination spread through the entire side and it was no surprise when the county town side struck first through Jack Ward.

Town did level before the break but in an end-to-end second half the Raiders regained the upper hand and a great interchange of passes ended with George Wilson slotting home at the second attempt.

That proved a huge setback for Wimborne and just minutes later they found themselves two behind when Ethan Garside crossed from the by-line for Ward to volley in his second and seal the victory.

The Raiders, who have finished second in a strong league this season, have gone from strength to strength since Christmas and with sponsor Trevor Stockley kindly continuing his support it means they will don a new kit in 2009-10.

The management team of Dave Mansley, Roger Wilson and Dan Mansley are delighted with what their lads have achieved this season.

Dave Mansley said: “What is great to see is that the lads have not let things go to their heads and remain very gracious to their opponents.

“Seeing the team improve and build on their game has been fascinating this season and we are lucky to have such committed players and parents, who have all been absolutely fantastic.”
